Speakers Series luncheon: McElhanney

 

McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd has 26 offices throughout western Canada and is the oldest consulting company in Canada. Offering a diverse set of infrastructure and community development services, McElhanney has been able to survive and thrive through many economic ups and downs since establishment of the company in 1910.

In this presentation, McElhanney will discuss how the consulting industry is in a period of change. Mergers and acquisitions are happening at an unprecedented rate and many of the historical markets in Prince George and BC are disappearing and being replaced with entirely new businesses and market sectors. In addition to this, new development in design software promise to change the manner in which technical challenges are met. McElhanney's Prince George branch manager will discuss what this means and offer some insights into the way your business may get the most value from consultants today and in the future.

Paul Bjorn has over 20 year's of technical and managerial experience in the engineering consulting industry. He has recently moved to Prince George to assume the role of manager of McElhanney's branch manager office here. Mr. Bjorn leads a team of about 50 professionals and is responsible for all aspects of branch management including staffing and career development, strategic planning, proposal preparation and project delivery as well as overseeing quality control and assurance, budget control and scheduling.

Mr. Bjorn holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and is registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) under the Civil discipline. His area of technical expertise includes structural engineering (industrial and commercial buildings), industrial mechanical engineering and civil engineering (roads, bridges and municipal infrastructure).

Over the course of his career, Mr. Bjorn has provided structural, mechanical and civil engineering for hundreds of commercial and industrial buildings, sawmill equipment and material handling, and subdivision and highway projects. Recently, he was responsible for opening new branch offices in Kitimat and Prince Rupert and most notably led the sustainable expansion of McElhanney's branch in Terrace through a period of economic uncertainty
