An Introduction for Business Owners
Join us for the first Workshop Series of 2015 where we will hear from trusted local advisors from KPMG, HSJ and RBC! During this three part series you, the business owner will be introduced to the essential structural, legal and financial considerations of succession planning.
Session 3 - Lead by Paul Mercer and Trent Heppner, Senior Account Managers with RBC
"RBC recognizes that transition planning provides the business owner with a detailed plan to transfer an existing business to a new owner. Whether that be a family member, existing management interested in purchasing the business or someone external to the business. In either situation the key to a successful transition are the following elements: purchase agreement, valuation of the business, consideration of the tax implications, contingency plan, and the kind of financing required. Each element when further discussed provide both parties a chance to identify a path that suits buyer's and sellers needs. A successful transition is good for both parties, the business community and Prince George."
Stanley Mitchell, Tax Partner with KPMG and Gaurav Parmar, Partner with HSJ will supplement this workshop from a tax and legal point of view. In addition, Heather Oland with Initiatives Prince George will introduce you to their program designed to connect owners of businesses for sale with the investment interest they receive in office.
Paul Mercer is a RBC Commercial Account Manager with the Commercial Finance Team in Prince George. His specialty is working with the Health Care and Business Professionals. He holds a Masters in Business Administration Degree from the University of Northern BC. Paul is from the North Coast Region of BC. He was born in Terrace BC and currently resides in Prince George with his wife Laurie. Both Paul and Laurie moved to Prince George in the fall of 2012 to complete their studies at UNBC. Paul graduated from UNBC May 2013 and Laurie will graduate with a Bachelors of Commerce degree in May. The move to Prince George has been positive on many levels for Paul, Laurie and their children.Trent Heppner is a Commercial Account Manager with RBC Royal Bank, Commercial Financial Services division. Mr. Heppner's area's of expertise are: Real Estate, Construction Financing, Retail & Succession/Acquisition Financing. Mr. Heppner was born and raised in Quesnel B.C. He is active in the community. Mr. Heppner is an active member of the Prince George Construction Association & the Canadian Homebuilders Association - Prince George. Mr Heppner has been involved in the Junior Achievement program in a number of communities, providing education & guidance to highschool students around the importance of financial management. Mr Heppner enjoys sports, and is a member of the Prince George Men's Basketball Association.
