Roundtable Discussion with the Minister of National Revenue

Join us in welcoming the Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Minister of National Revenue to the Prince George Chamber of Commerce for a roundtable discussion with you, our Membership.  

The Minister will be joined by, the newly elected President of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Cindi Pohl, and MP Richard Harris.

During the roundtable, Minister Findlay will seek feedback from small business stakeholders within Prince George on the Canada Revenue Agency’s ongoing efforts to improve services and reduce red tape.  

Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay was first elected to the House of Commons in May 2011 and was appointed Minister of National Revenue in July 2013. She is accountable to Parliament for all Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) activities, including administering the Income Tax Act, the Excise Tax Act, and 16 other acts. She makes sure that the CRA upholds the highest standards of fairness and integrity when dealing with taxpayers and benefit recipients.
Under Ms. Findlay’s leadership, the CRA has continued to cut red tape for small-business owners. Businesses are now able to receive their mail online from the CRA, submit documents, and ask specific questions about their accounts through My Business Account, the CRA’s online portal for business owners. These and other enhancements to the CRA’s electronic services let business owners spend less time on paperwork and more time with their customers.

Consulting stakeholders is one of Ms. Findlay’s personal priorities. She has met with accountants, tax preparers, and small-business owners across the country to learn first‑hand how the CRA can better meet their needs. As a result, the CRA has introduced a new and innovative approach to tax compliance, based on in-person guidance and targeted interventions. In keeping with this new approach, the CRA will work directly with tax preparers under the proposed Registration of Tax Preparers Program to prevent common reporting errors. This shift will bring the CRA toward being more of a partner in compliance rather than simply being an enforcer.
