Ethical Oil
For an unforgettable breakfast, do not miss Ezra Levant - author of Ethical Oil.
Ethical Oil focuses on a hot-button topic: the ethical cost of our addiction to oil. It addresses the hypocrisy of the West dealing with the reprehensible regimes from which we purchase the oil that sustains our lifestyles.
- With the oil sands at our disposal, is it ethically responsible to • import our oil from the Sudan, Russia, and Mexico?
- How should we weigh carbon emissions with human rights • violations in Saudi Arabia?
- And assuming that we can’t live without oil, can • energy development be made more environmentally sustainable?
Like his book, Mr. Levant is sure to spark debate.
Biography
Ezra Levant is a lawyer, blogger and general trouble-maker. After law school, he went to Ottawa as a parliamentary assistant to Preston Manning.
In 2004, Levant became the founding publisher of the Western Standard magazine. His publishing of the Danish cartoons of Mohammed led to two charges of "hate speech" before the Alberta government’s human rights commission.
Levant wrote a book about the experience, called Shakedown, which exposed the illiberal nature of Canadian human rights commissions. His latest book, Ethical Oil: The Moral Case for Canada’s Oilsands, was published in August 2010.
